oak leaf

The oak, sacred to Zeus

Dodona

I hear a thousand green voices

whispering,

and they’re all Yours.

A thousand acorns lie beneath my feet,

All of them Yours.

The rough bark under my hands belongs to You.

I dreamt of You once.

You were a giant,

brown and beautiful,

and so alone.

I wanted You,

though You were far beyond

my reach.
